I have played a few vst's that have piano patches and they sound okay, but they do not quite fool you into thinking it is the real thing.
Anyone know of one that stands out and sounds just like the real thing?

Well the "most" realistic sounding one is up for debate, but there are a few plug-ins out there that are sample based and sound just like the real thing. One in particular I know of is Synthogy Ivory. In the September 09 electronic musician podcast, Jordan Rudess of Dream Theathre was interviewed and he spoke of his recent album which was created enitrely with Ivory for the piano sounds. Here is a clip from the podcast where he previews a couple songs on the album (I snipped out just the part with the piano clips) http://bigskycrew.com/ivory_clip.mp3 I really want to get it after hearing that, I haven't heard any plug-in that sounds as good as Ivory! |

I can recommend Pianoteq True Pianos VSTi. It sounds very natural but it's a synth. Truely Amazing and worth the price. |

My favourite as VST and in a reachable price range is Steinberg The Grand. |
